A total of 32 villages will be named Sino-Vietnamese Friendship Stations along the border of China and Viet Nam this month.

The communist youth leagues in both countries came up with the initiative, which will link villages in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and two of Viet Nam's provinces. The programme aims to strengthen exchanges between young people in the two countries, said Hu Wei from the Secretariat of the Central Committee of Communist Youth League of China at the initiative's launch here.

"It follows the direction set by President Hu Jintao in April when he spoke with his counterpart in Viet Nam, to make the border between the two countries an area of peace, stability and friendship," said Hu.

The first two Sino-Vietnamese Friendship Stations, one in Pingxiang of Guangxi and the other in Viet Nam, will be named today.

Two hundred young people, consisting of young entrepreneurs and "excellent youth" representatives from China and Viet Nam, will visit each other's countries until Wednesday, seeking to co-operate in business, trade, tourism and education.

"We hope these efforts will bring the two countries and peoples closer together, so they become good friends, neighbours and wonderful partners," said Hu.

The Sino-Vietnamese Youth Tourism Forum and a fair promoting business and trade co-operation were also held in Chongzuo during the week.
