A pair of car bombings rocked two Iraqi police stations early Monday, killing at least six people and injuring many others, witnesses and Iraqi police said. A car bombing ripped through a police station in Husseiniya, 30km north of Baghdad, killing at least six people, the police reported.

Meanwhile, an apparent suicide car bomber detonated outside a police station in the Amiriyah district in western Baghdad, injuring at least seven policemen.

A third car bomb was also found in the Amiriyah neighborhood andhas reportedly been defused.

The fresh wave of attacks came one day after US officials announced the capture of Saddam Hussein, Iraq's former leader ousted in April, near his hometown of Tikrit by US forces. On Sunday night, Baghdad witnessed at least three explosions, but no casualties were caused.

An automobile was blasted into fire near the Palestine Hotel in the city center around 8:20 p.m. (1720 GMT), several hours after US officials announced they had "got" Saddam alive in a cellar. In a downtown street, a police truck blew up because a careless policeman unpurposedly set a fire when he was fueling the truck, Iraqi police said.

Another explosion for unclear reason was heard from Al-Adhimiyah, a northern Baghdad district which had remained a support base for Saddam eight months after his regime was overthrown on April 9.
