The body of the last of the three migrant workers trapped in a construction site collapse in this northeast China coastal city was recovered Friday afternoon.

The workers were buried under 12 meters of earth and rocks at about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, when a side wall of the construction site, near Baishan Road in Dalian's Shahekou District, suddenly collapsed.

Two of the bodies were found Thursday morning by rescue workersafter 40 local firefighters and a bulldozer were mobilized to dig them out.

The men were Liu Wei from Waifangdian City, Chen Zhongqiang from Pulandian City and Lu Xiujun from Chengde City, all in north China's Hebei Province, said Liu Yang, a local policeman.

Initial investigations indicate that some migrant workers had removed steel pillars that were used to support the side wall to sell to a scrap metal merchant, said Wang Zhongguo, the official in charge of construction in the city.

The construction site has been closed for further investigations.
