Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat asserted on Saturday the Palestinian National Authority's commitment to the peace process despite all the Israeli military escalations endured by the Palestinian people.

Arafat told reporters from his besieged headquarters in the West Bank City of Ramallah that the Israeli army are still carrying out aggressive operations against the Palestinian areas and religious sites.

He said that the Israeli army is still holding a tight grip on the entrances and surroundings of Bethlehem City, where Jesus Christ was born, and barring thousands of tourists and pilgrims from attending the Christmas celebrations in the town.

Arafat made the statement during a visit by a group of peace volunteers, who asserted their solidarity with the Palestinian people and leadership and highly appreciated the Palestinians' determination to attain their national goals.
