Indian PM indicates early elections

Indian Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee indicated Monday in Hyderabad, south India, that the Lok Sabha (the Lower House ) elections may be held in April-May, according to the Press Trust of India.

Indian Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee indicated Monday in Hyderabad, south India, that the Lok Sabha (the Lower House ) elections may be held in April-May, according to the Press Trust of India.

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters that the prime minister said in his concluding speech at the party's national executive that if elections are held by April, then it will be good.

The BJP National Council will meet on Feb. 8 or Feb. 10 to elect a new party president, he said.
