Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei will be in Rome on Tuesday for talks with Italian leaders on the Middle East peace process, Italian media reported on Sunday.

Qurei is scheduled to meet Prime minister Silvio Berlusconi soon after his arrival. He will meet with President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and other government officials the following day.

Palestinian delegate in Italy Nemer Hamad said that Qurei had chosen Rome as the first leg of his European tour, which will alsotake him to France, Germany, Britain and finally Ireland, the current rotating presidency of the European Union.

Hamad said the heart of the talks would be the "serious situation" on the ground, with Israel's security wall high on theagenda.

Qurei wanted to explain to European leaders the danger of the encroachment across the Occupied Territories of the Israeli wall, which is jeopardizing the roadmap to Mideast peace, Hamad said.
