The Three Gorges Project is aiming to generate 34.6 billion kwh of electricity in 2004, four times the figure a year ago, said Li Yong'an, general manager of the China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation, Tuesday.
Half of the electricity, or 17 billion kwh, will be transmitted to east China, including 6 billion kwh to Shanghai. Central and southern China regions will be supplied with 8 billion kwh each, said Li.
Five generating units are expected to go into operation this year, including four 700,000-kw units which are to become operational before September, said Li.
By the end of the year, up to 11 generating units, with an installed capacity exceeding 7 million kw, will have become operational, Li added.
The Three Gorges Project is expected to complete the installation of 26 700,000-kw units, which are expected to offer a combined 84.7 billion kwh of electricity a year.
