S.Lankan president committed to truce pact with Tamil rebels
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga assured the chief truce monitor, Trond Furuhovde, that she is committed to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed by the government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe with the rebels two years ago, her office said in a statement on Wednesday.

Kumaratunga met with head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) retired Norwegian Major General Furuhovde on Wednesday at the President's House.
Both sides discussed the matters concerning the maintenance andimplementation of the ceasefire agreement Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, now the head of the caretaker government, signed with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels in February 2002.
At the meeting, Kumaratunga also proposed the setting up of a committee comprising the defense ministry secretary, the armed forces commanders, a representative of the peace secretariat and senior representatives of the SLMM.
The committee will brief both the president and the prime minister on all matters relating to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement following their discussion on these matters ona regular basis, the statement said.
The president's meeting with the chief truce monitor came following her dissolution of parliament and order of a snap election last Saturday.
