An FBI agent is to report Wednesday to the Hong Kong airport police over allegations of carrying ammunition at Hong Kong airport.

Police said the 39-year-old man was arrested on Feb. 8, when he tried to transit at Chek Lap Kok airport from New York to Bangkok.

The airport security guards allegedly found a loaded pistol magazine with 15.45-caliber bullets in his hand luggage. The security guards reported to the airport police and the man was arrested for possession of ammunition without license.

A police spokesman said Tuesday night that the man had been released on bail shortly after the arrest and ordered to report back to Hong Kong police Wednesday.

He said it was illegal to carry firearms on board a plane and he did not know how the man had cleared US security checks.

It was unclear if the agent was traveling for business or personal reasons.

Police said no charges had been brought.
