The death toll of the multiple bombings targeting Shiite Muslim shrines in Iraq on Tuesday has risen to 182, the BBC Arabic service reported.
Among the dead, 70 were killed in the suicide bombings at theKazimiya mosque in northern Baghdad and 112 were victims of the sophisticated attacks in two Shiite holy shrines in centralKarbala, 100 km south of Baghdad.
Earlier, senior US military spokesman, Mark Kimmitt, put thedeath toll at 143, with 58 in Baghdad and 85 in arbala.The apparently coordinated attacks came as hundreds of thousands of Shiite Muslims celebrated their holiest day marking the killingof Imam Hussein in 680 AD.
