The British Ministry of Defense said four British soldiers were injured in southeast Iraq on March 5 while they were patrolling a village.
The soldiers from the Second Light Infantry came under fire while patrolling the village of Qal at Sahil in the Maysan province, a ministry spokesman said.
However, they only received "non-life-threatening injuries" and have been sent to a military hospital near the southern Iraq city of Basra, the spokesman said.
"The patrol returned fire after receiving fire from heavy machine-guns and a rocket-propelled grenade," the spokesman added.
There are now about 9,000 British troops still positioning in southern Iraq, with most of them being deployed in the Basra area.
