South Korean foreign minister said on Monday its country will actively attend the process aiming to solve the nuclear issue of the Korean peninsula despite current domestic situation.

Ban Ki-moon made this remarks in a press conference on Monday.

After the impeachment of South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, concerns arose that it might have a negative effect on international efforts to solving the nuclear issue.

But, Ban said, Seoul's efforts to convene a working group meeting and other efforts will continue.

Moreover, the South Korea top diplomat said to reporters that the "nuclear issue and the impeachment are totally unrelated issues."

"If the DPRK takes a half-hearted attitude or does not attend the six-party talks because of the impeachment, we cannot help butdoubt the DPRK's earnest stance on peacefully resolving the nuclear issue," said Ban.

Ban's remarks came after a working-level inter-Korean economic talks failed to take place as scheduled on Monday after the DPRK demanded a change of the venue, citing "political instability" in the South.

The meeting was originally scheduled to be held for two days from Monday in Paju in South Korea. But the DPRK side proposed Sunday that the venue be changed to its border town of Kaesong, citing political instability in South Korea due to the impeachment.

South Korea rejected the DPRK's proposal on last Sunday and sent the message to the DPRK earlier Monday.
