All of 9 Chinese workers buried in Kazakhstan landslide have been found dead some 20 kilometers east of the economic capital, Alma-Ata.

The nine Chinese citizens were believed to be traders who came to Kazakhstan on business.

Kazakhstan borders China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Bilateral trade has been climbing fast in recent times.

The tragedy hit early yesterday after several days of heavy rain in Talgar district, about 20 kilometres east of the capital of Almaty, said Emergencies Agency spokesman Kairzhan Turezhanov.

The mudslide destroyed one apartment block and seriously damaged another in the mountainous Taldybulak settlement.

Rescuers pulled out five survivors, three of whom were hospitalized in serious condition.

Kazak President Nursultan Nazarbayev has sent condolence messages to the families of the deceased.
