Powell, Musharraf discusses war against terrorism

Visiting US Secretary of State Colin Powell and Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf discussed in Lawalpindi Thursday the war against terrorism and the on-going military operation against al-Qaeda in South Waziristan tribal areas, the official Pakistan TV reported.

Visiting US Secretary of State Colin Powell and Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf discussed in Lawalpindi Thursday the war against terrorism and the on-going military operation against al-Qaeda in South Waziristan tribal areas, the official Pakistan TV reported.

Musharraf informed Powell of the elimination of terrorism on Pakistani soil, its war against terrorism and the improvement of relations between Pakistan and India.

The matter of transfer of nuclear technology also came under their discussion. The two leaders also discussed Pak-India dialogue on all issues including the core issue of Kashmir, it said.

Powell praised Pakistan's efforts in nuclear non-proliferation, establishment of peace in the region and war against terrorism.

He also met with Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and discussed bilateral and regional matters.

Powell arrived here Wednesday evening for talks with Pakistani leaders on issues of mutual concern, including the on-going hunt for al-Qaeda terrorists, nuclear proliferation and peace moves between Pakistan and India.

Pakistan is the last leg of Powell's five-day South Asia tour which has taken him to India and Afghanistan.
