At least 24 people were killed and 15 others injured early Friday when a bus collided with a truck on an icy road in southern Finland, police said.
The accident occurred around 2 a.m. (0000 GMT) near the town ofAanekoski, some 300 kilometers north of the capital Helsinki, whenthe truck's trailer swung out into the middle of the slippery roadand hit the oncoming bus.
About 40 passengers were aboard the bus when the accident took place, most of them children who were traveling to ski at the resort Lapland, northern Finland, an Aanekoski police official said.
Ambulances have rushed the injured to hospitals, as rescue teams worked to release trapped passengers.
The accident is one of the worst in Finland to date.
