Israeli army pulls out of Gaza village, 6 Palestinians killed

Israeli army forces on Sunday morning pulled out of the village of Abbasan, east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, leaving at least six Palestinians killed and 17 injured, Palestinian witnesses and medics said.

Dozens of Israeli army tanks and armored vehicles backed by Apache helicopters launched a predawn incursion into the village earlier on Sunday, the witnesses said.

Doctor Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency in the PalestinianMinistry of Health, said that six Palestinians were killed, among them a militant and his wife, and at least 17 others were injured.

A Palestinian suicide bomber who blew himself up as the tanks passed was among the six people killed and several Israeli soldierswere wounded, the medics said.

Ezzedine al-Qassam, an armed wing of Islamic resistance movementHamas, has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing attack.

According to the witnesses, the Israeli army raided the village in an attempt to destroy the house of Bassim Qdeih, a member of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah movement.

They said that the soldiers besieged the house, calling upon itsresidents to leave, but the Qdeih family decided to stay in the house.

The Israeli soldiers then blew up a small metal workshop which belongs to the family and is adjacent to the house, said the witnesses, adding that several soldiers went up to the roofs of neighboring houses and opened fire at the house.

The Israeli soldiers stormed into the house and a short exchangeof gunfire took place inside, where Bassim and his wife Samaher were shot dead, the witnesses said.

The soldiers left the village after forcing the family members to evacuate the house and dynamiting it, they added.
