German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said on Mar. 25 that Germany wants to have a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.
"The nation, which contributes a great deal to the maintenance of world peace and international security, should have a permanent seat in the Security Council," Schroeder told lawmakers in the parliament.
It was the first time that Schroeder expressed his country's wish to become a permanent member of the Security Council in the parliament.
Germany is ready to take the responsibility as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, he stressed.
