Beckham to star in Hollywood movie

British soccer superstar David Beckham is in negotiation with MGM Pictures to take up a cameo role in the remake of "The Pink Panther," the Hollywood Reporter reported Friday.

British soccer superstar David Beckham is in negotiation with MGM Pictures to take up a cameo role in the remake of "The Pink Panther," the Hollywood Reporter reported Friday.

The English midfielder could play a cameo role as a soccer player in the film, which follows a detective solving the murder of a famous soccer coach and the theft of the Pink Panther diamond.

Talks for Beckham hinge on the resolution of a scheduling conflict, the report said.

If an agreement is reached, Beckham, now playing for Real Madrid, would appear on the big screen for the first time. He was featured only in archive footage in the girl-power comedy "Bend ItLike Beckham."

In "Pink Panther," Hollywood comedian Steve Martin stars as Inspector Clouseau, with Kevin Kline, Beyonce Knowles and Jean Reno also cast.

The film is due to go into production in May and is scheduled for a July 2005 release.
