Li Peng Meets With Macao Chief Executive

NPC Chairman Li Peng met in Beijing May 25 with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, who has been appointed the first Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Li said that the appointment means that Macao will enter a new period under the "one country, two systems" and "Macao people governing Macao" principles and with a high degree of autonomy, as written in the Basic Law of the Macao SAR.

Li said that the Basic Law will be fully implemented after the regional government is established on December 20 and that the NPC will support the Chief Executive in his work.

Ho said that he will work hard for the successful implementation of the "one country, two systems" policy and for the long-term stability and development of Macao. (Xinhua)
