Treating Appraisal Opinions With Sincerity

This is the eighth article by Our Commentator on deepening the "three-emphasis" education in the spirit of rectification. Following are excerpts of the article:

At present, the first group work units involved in the in-depth development of the "three-emphasis" education are mobilizing cadres and masses to conduct democratic appraisals of leading bodies and leading cadres. Comrades participating in the appraisal have, in the spirit of holding themselves responsible to the organization and comrades, put forward many good opinions. These opinions not only provide clues and point out the direction for leading cadres to make in-depth self-analysis, but also form a good atmosphere of strengthening supervision and spurring them to engage in retrospection.

However, to bring about an in-depth development of self-analysis by giving play to the role of help and supervision through democratic appraisal, it is still necessary for leading cadres to make arduous efforts subjectively. An important aspect of which is for leading cadres to take an earnest attitude, an open mind and a sincere spirit toward democratic appraisals and related opinions.

Only when leading cadres sincerely listen to the opinions of the masses, can the masse express their opinions without any restraint, and can leading cadres' retrospection and self-analysis be carried out in a deep-going way.

The sincerity of leading bodies and leading cadres first find expression in their earnest attitude welcoming criticisms from the masses. Sincerely accepting criticisms from the masses requires that leading cadres have an open mind.

Judging whether or not leading cadres have sincerity depends, in the final analysis, on whether they can, in a sincere spirit, conscientiously compare their retrospection with the opinions of the masses, put pressure on themselves and make strict self-analysis.
