Anna Chennault Education Fund Awards Excellent Teachers ����Anna Chennault Education Fund held an awarding ceremony in the Great Hall of the People on May 25 to award the excellent teachers. The Fund named after Anna Chennault is set up by China Middle and Primary School, and Kindergarten Teacher Rewarding Fund with the money contributed by Anna Chennault, a well-known Chinese-American social activist and Chairman of American International Cooperation Committee. Wang Guangying, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and Qian Zhengying, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC and director-general of China Middle and Primary School and Kindergarten Teachers Rewarding Fund and representatives of the prize-winners were present at the ceremony. ����The total prize money of the First Excellent Teachers Award of Anna Chennault Education Fund is 600,000 yuan and shared by 212 excellent teachers. The winners are recommended by the local teacher rewarding (education) fund and selected by an appraisal committee. Of them, 180 are from nine poverty-stricken provinces and autonomous regions including Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan and Tibet. They have all worked for long years in rural, mountainous and ethnic minority area as middle and primary school teachers or universal education workers. ����At the ceremony, Wei Yu, vice-minister of education and Liu Bin, deputy director-general of China Middle and Primary School and Kindergarten Teachers Rewarding Fund highly praised Mrs Anna Chennault for her devotion to friendly contacts between China and the United States and between theChinese people across Taiwan Straits, her warm-hearted support to education in China and her advocacy of the social practice of honoring teachers and valuing education.
