China Establishes New Military Schools

����China established four new military schools Friday by a decree of President Jiang Zemin who is also chairman of the Central Military Commission.

����They are the Shijiazhuang Army Command College, Information Engineering University, Science and Engineering University and Institute of Artillery Corps of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

����The PLA Shijiazhuang Army Command College was made by combining the Army General Staff College and the Armored Force Command College to train middle-ranking officers.

����The PLA Information Engineering University was made by combining PLA Institute of Information Engineering, the PLA Electronic Technology College, and the PLA Survey and Mapping College. It has a total of 10,000 students and teaching staff and aims to provide high-quality military professionals in a variety of fields for modernization of national defense.

����The PLA Science and Engineering University was made from the PLA Institute of Communications Engineering, the PLA Engineering Institute of Engineering Corps, the Meteorology Institute of the Air Force, and the PLA General Staff Headquarters' No.63 Research Institute. It will train people for information warfare and for automating communications, engineering, meteorology, and commands. It will also serve as an important center for scientific and technological and military equipment developments for national defense in the next century.

����The PLA Institute of Artillery Corps was made from the Hefei Institute of Artillery Corps and Nanjing Institute of Artillery Corps Institute and will train officers for the artillery corps. (Xinhua)
