Chinese Premier Meets Namibian President

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji expresses willingness to fully tap the economic and trade cooperative potential between China and Namibia through concerted efforts.

During a meeting with visiting Namibian President Sam Nujoma in Beijing Friday, Zhu recalled his visit to Namibia four years ago and the warm hospitality he received during the visit.

Through the visit, the premier said, he felt about the solid foundation of friendship between the two countries, which have stood the test of time and are now deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples.

He expressed the conviction that President Nujoma's current visit would forcefully push forward the acceleration of bilateral ties, and pledged on behalf of the State Council to seriously implement the agreements reached during yesterday's successful talks between presidents of the two countries.

Nujoma said Namibia is now devoted to domestic economic construction with the aim of looking after the needs of its people. Namibia is willing to draw on the rich experience of China during its own economic construction, he said, expressing the hope his current visit would further promote cooperation.

Zhu said the Chinese government highly emphasizes economic and trade cooperation between the two countries since this constitutes an important content of bilateral ties. The Chinese side is willing to fully tap the cooperative potential and keep the sound development momentum through joint efforts, he noted.

The Chinese government has offered economic assistance to Namibia over a long period of time, within its capabilities, and encouraged cooperation between companies and enterprises of both countries on the basis of mutual benefit, he added.

The premier expressed the belief that through strong support of the two governments and the active exploration of respective enterprises, the bilateral economic and trade cooperation would be further expanded, and more and better cooperative fruits would be achieved.

Nujoma agreed that the two countries have already conducted good cooperation in this regard, and Chinese enterprises are operating well in Namibia.

Namibia enjoys abundant resources, and there's strong complementary and broad potential for the future economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, he said.

Namibia welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest there and the Namibian Government would offer support for them with good conditions, he added.
