China Minister Leaves for Washington on WTO Talks ����A Chinese delegation, led by Shi Guangsheng, minister of foreign trade and economic cooperation (MOFTEC), left Beijing on September 25 for Washington to resume negotiations on China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) at the invitation of US Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky. ����Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said on Friday that the US has recently repeatedly expressed its wish to resume negotiations with China on WTO entry, and US President Bill Clinton also formally asked Chinese President Jiang Zemin to re- open the talks. ����China and the US resumed formal WTO negotiations following the New Zealand summit between the leaders of the two countries, and the WTO talks between China and the European Union are also expected to resume soon, the spokeswoman said.
