Sports Chinese Minister Elected Head of Int'l Wushu Federation

At the fifth congress of the IWF, the national Wushu associations from Jamaica, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Mali, Uzbekstan and Madagascar have been admitted into the IWF, taking up the total membership associations to 83 at the world martial art ruling organization.

Wu Shaozu said that he would be trying to promote and popularize Wushu worldwide and make it an Olympic event.

To attain this goal, IWF set up a medical committee, a market development committee and a traditional Wushu committee during the congress.

The congress also decided that the 2001 world Wushu championships would be held in Armenia. (Xinhua)
