Forums to be held on HK's constitutional development

Forums are due to be held in Hong Kong next Monday on the decision made by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) on issues relating to the methods for selecting the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2007 and for forming the Legislative Council in 2008.

The announcement was made Friday by Hong Kong government press office. Deputy Secretary-General of the NPC Standing Committee Qiao Xiaoyang, Vice-Chairman of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee Li Fei, and Vice-Minister of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Xu Ze have been invited to address the two forums.

The forums are jointly organized by the HKSAR government and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong. At a NPC Standing Committee meeting held in Beijing on April 19,it was decided that the report on Hong Kong's constitutional development submitted by Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa will be deliberated at the meeting held on April 25 to 26.
