Intel buys Israeli software startup for nearly 50 mln USD

JERUSALEM, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Intel Company has purchased an Israeli interactive software startup called Omek Interactive for nearly 50 million U.S. dollars, the Globes economic daily reported Tuesday.

The startup group has developed an interface in which the software can intercept gestures based on information fed to it by a three-dimensional camera.

Intel confirmed the purchase in a statement, saying it "will help increase Intel's capabilities in the delivery of more perceptual computing experiences."

This is the second time Intel bought an Israeli company in the past two years. In January 2012 it purchased an Israeli company called inVision Biometrics.
