PARIS, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Paris' iconic tower, La Tour Eiffel, reopened to the public on Saturday night following the lift of a bomb alert.

At 19:30 local time, around 1,500 people were evacuated from the famous monument, after authorities received an anonymous call of bomb attempt made from a phone booth near suburb of Paris.

The anti-terrorism unit searched the tower for possible explosives for a few hours, and then the alert was lifted and visitors were allowed to access the site again.

Bomb threats targeting monuments and public places occur occasionally in the French capital, but all alerts are "treated very seriously," the police said.
