TEHRAN, Dec. 11 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said here Wednesday that his country supports invitation of Iran to Geneva II talks on Syria.

All parties involved in Syria's political struggle should attend the Geneva II talks scheduled for January, Lavrov said, adding that those countries which have influence in Syria developments should also be present in the talks.

Russia considers it important for Iran to be invited to the Geneva II talks and his country believes that Iran can play an important role in resolving the crisis in the Arab state, the visiting Russian foreign minister said at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart.

Russia and Iran believe that the Syrian people should determine the political fate of their own country, Lavrov stressed.

Both countries support an end to the bloodshed in Syria, he noted.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said there is no military solution to Syria crisis, and political dialogue among the Syrians will be the only solution to the political problems of the country, he added.

Outsiders or foreigners to Syrian conflict can only help the Syrian people to tackle the issue, he said, adding that no foreign intervention in Syria is acceptable.
