Shanghai’s North Shaanxi Street is famous for the celebrities that once lived there, including Madame Chiang Kai-shek. Recently, the street has been recognised for its historic and cultural significance.

North Shaanxi Street will turn 100 next year. Over the past century, the street has been home to a who’s who from Chinese society, including politicians and businessmen.

The Song family used to be residents here. The family’s three daughters each married three of the most powerful men in the country: Kung Hsiang-hsi, Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek. The "red capitalist" Jung Yi-jen and his family also once lived on the street.
