Wau, July 22 (ChinaMil) -- A municipal-level highway in South Sudan built by the 10th Chinese peacekeeping taskforce to South Sudan was opened to traffic on July 21, 2013.

Named by the local government as the "Road of Friendship", this gravel road, 5,000m in length and 8m in width, is a municipal-level road connecting Wau, the capital city of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, and Zhuerhe County in South Sudan. This is the third local pro bono highway constructed by the 10th Chinese peacekeeping taskforce to South Sudan.

The opening of the highway draws an end to the inconvenient history for the two places to be void of a straight route to replace the detours through other state and counties. In addition, the Chinese peacekeeping taskforce also revamped a bus station for the city of Wau as a supporting facility.

Ms. Johnson, special representative and head of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan, believes that the opening of this highway not only solves the problems of material transportation and traffic but also plays an important role in improving the local public security. "This truly reflects the responsibility of the United Nations Mission, making great contributions to the peace-building in South Sudan through practical actions," said she.
