GENEVA, November 18 (ChinaMil) -- China has been actively offering international humanitarian mine-clearance assistance and training since 1998, making positive contributions to reducing civilian injuries from mine explosion, Wu Haitao, head of the Chinese delegation and Chinese ambassador for disarmament affairs, expressed at the 2013 meeting of state parties to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCCW) and its Protocol II dealing with landmines recently held in Geneva in southwest Switzerland.

Wu Haitao pointed out that the Chinese side attaches importance to international exchanges and cooperation on issue concerning landmines. While continuously fulfilling its promises at home, the Chinese side has been actively carrying out international humanitarian mine-clearance assistance and cooperation.

Since 1998, the Chinese government has offered humanitarian assistance valued at over 70 million yuan (US$11.5 million) to nearly 40 Asian, African and Latin American countries, and trained 400-odd professional minesweepers by offering mine-clearance equipment and training courses.

In 2013, China offered mine-clearance training courses to Sudan, South Sudan and Laos, and continued to dispatch experts to Cambodia to provide on-site mine-clearance training. In addition, China also offered assistance to landmine victims in Sri Lanka and Jordan.
