No injuries after fire at refinery

A fire at a refinery in a petrochemical industrial zone in the Pudong New Area yesterday was brought under control. There were no reports of injuries.

There was also no reports of pollution, local environmental authorities said.

The fire started about 10:20am yesterday in Gaoqiao refinery in Pudong's Gaoqiao petrochemical industrial zone. The flame was first spotted from a reforming unit reactor tower which is about 60 meters high.

The fire was put out about 10:35am, fire officials said.

The reactor caught fire after the materials, petrol and hydrogen, leaked.

Production in the factory was not affected. The incident is under investigation.

The reforming unit reactor is usually used to process semi-finished products into the finished ones. There have been previous reports of fire at the industrial zone.
