GENEVA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- With its unique role in international politics and the global economy, Switzerland could serve as a bridge between China and Europe, as well as other parts of the world, Swiss experts and business leaders say.

The experts spoke before Chinese Premier Li Keqiang embarks on his first visit to the country since taking office in March.

During his trip to Switzerland, Li will meet with Ueli Maurer, President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, Vice President of the Confederation, and Economics Minister Johann Schneider-Ammann.

"Li's visit to Switzerland will push forward bilateral ties and make bilateral cooperation a model of friendly exchanges between countries with different social systems," said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao.

A significant achievement in free trade talks between the two countries was expected to be reached during Li's visit.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced on May 13th that China and Switzerland have concluded negotiations on the trade agreement at the technical level. The deal remains to be signed by the government and then approved by the parliament.

Schneider-Ammann last week stressed the importance of the accord with China, which is now Switzerland's third largest trading partner following the European Union and the United States.
