GENEVA, March 3-- United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday condemned the terror attack in Kunming, southwest China, that claimed 29 lives and left hundreds wounded.

"Terrorist attacks cannot be justified under any circumstances and under any reasons," stressed Ban. "This was unacceptable. The perpetrators must be brought to justice."

Ban conveyed his "most sincere condolences and sympathies to those families of the victims" and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

"The international community has suffered too much, [and] too long by these terrorist attacks here and there. We must be untied to fight against terrorism," Ban noted.

"The UN General Assembly has adopted by consensus the global strategy to fight against terrorism. We have established these task forces. We are working very hard and closely with the member states together to address this common challenge which really affects many human lives," Ban highlighted.

A total of 29 civilians were confirmed dead and 130 others injured after a group of knife-wielding people attacked the railway station on Saturday in Kunming, capital of China's Yunnan Province, authorities said, adding that it was an organized, premeditated and violent terrorist attack.

Evidence at the scene showed the attack was carried out by Xinjiang separatists, the municipal government said Sunday.
