NAY PYI TAW, Aug. 11 -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Speaker of Myanmar's Union Parliament and the House of Representatives (Lower House) U Shwe Mann in Nay Pyi Taw Monday.

Wang said Parliament Speaker U Shwe Mann is an old friend of Chinese people, who has made positive contributions to the development of China-Myanmar friendship. Based on the extraordinary geographical and kinship relationship between the two countries, the destiny of China and Myanmar have been closely connected.

As both countries face the complicated and fast-changing international situation and the important task of stabilizing the domestic reform and development, the two sides should maintain the tradition of standing by each other through thick and thin while maintaining mutual help and trust, so as to push forward the two countries' development in a healthy and steady manner, said Wang.

This is in line with the fundamental interest of the two countries and the two peoples, he said.

Wang said the Chinese side wishes to boost exchange between legislative bodies and ruling parties with Myanmar, and at the same time strengthen the exchange of administration experiences and expand practical cooperation to truly benefit the people.

Wang hoped Myanmar's parliament can give full play to its advantages and actively enhance understanding and trust between peoples of the two countries.

Speaker U Shwe Mann said China is Myanmar's good neighbor and good friend, and the two countries share the same destiny. The Chinese side has always extended a helping hand whenever Myanmar faces difficulties, which Myanmar always keeps in mind.

The development and stability of Myanmar and China is regarded as important opportunities for each other, he noted.

Myanmar wishes to maintain high-level exchanges with China, including that between legislative bodies and ruling parties, he said.

Myanmar would like to learn from China's reform and development experiences to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen the friendship of the two peoples and boost the continuous development of the two countries' comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
