UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 27 -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Nepalese counterpart Mahendra Bahadur Pandey on Saturday vowed to further enhance their comprehensive cooperative partnership in a bid to lift bilateral relations to a new height.

The two foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the ongoing high-level debate of the UN General Assembly, which entered its fourth day here Saturday.

China and Nepal are friendly neighbors with adjoining mountains and waters, Wang said, adding that China always supports Nepal in its efforts to safeguard its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and backs the Nepalese people in independently choosing their development path.

China also supports the process toward peace and consitutionalization in Nepal and the country's economic and social development, Wang added.

He also said China appreciates Nepal's firm support on issues relating to China's core interests.

Together with the Nepalese side, China will take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Nepal diplomatic relations as an opportunity, carry out high-level interactions, deepen practical cooperation, expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges and elevate their comprehensive cooperative partnership to a new height, said the Chinese minister.

Meanwhile, Pandey said China and Nepal enjoy strong bilateral relations based on the friendliness between the two peoples.

Nepal stands firmly for China's core interests and major concerns, said the Nepalese minister.

Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties, Pandey said, adding that relations between China and Nepal have reached a new starting point.

Nepal is ready to work together with China to further increase mutual trust, expand practical cooperation in trade, infrastructure, tourism and other fields, and seek new progress in bilateral relations, he added.
