LJUBLJANA, Oct. 15 -- Slovenia's production of vegetables has remained low for years, according to survey published Wednesday by the country's Statistics Office.

In 2013, the self-sufficiency rate of vegetables was only 33 percent, provisional data showed ahead of World Food Day that falls on Oct. 16.

Slovenians' diets do not include enough fruit, vegetables and fibers, with people in the country eating too much salt and fat, data from the National Institute of Public Health showed.

Slovenia, with 2.06 million people, produced 37 percent of the vegetables it consumed in 2011. Its citizens consumed an average 97 kg of vegetables and 66 kg of potatoes that year.
