Pushy parents turn matchmaking events into ‘marriage fairs’ (7)

People's Daily Online)  08:18, July 10, 2013

Every week, hundreds of aged people will gather at a special corner of the park to talk about love and wedding. They come to attend a blind date event, keeping an eye out for suitable future in-laws, not for themselves, but their children.

A mother discloses the unspoken rules in Shanghai’s blind date corner that only men who meet the following conditions can find girl friends in the park. Firstly, a man has a downtown flat with at least two bedrooms and a living room under his name. Secondly, the man will not live with his parents after marriage. Thirdly, his monthly wages is above 8,000 yuan.
