JAKARTA, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian National Development Planning (Bappenas) Minister Armida Alisjahbana said that the country failed to meet two of four development targets in 2012, local media reported on Monday.
Armida said the failed development targets were growth and poverty reduction, while the succeeded ones were inflation control and unemployment reduction.
The targets were submitted by the ministry in government's mid- haul development planning plans (RPJMN) 2010-2014.
Speaking in a session disclosing its evaluation of government's efforts to address the four development targets, Armida said on Saturday that the growth stood at 6.23 percent throughout last year, significantly lower than 6.4 percent to 6.9 percent initially set by government.
In poverty reduction, Armida said government also missed its target initially set at 10 percent, with the underprivileged people in fact accounting for 11.6 percent of population, or 28.59 million people, as of Sept. last year.
Armida pointed out that government needs to take herculean efforts to face challenges in achieving development targets set in RPJMN 2010-2014 in the following years. The government has set higher targets at 7 percent to 7.7 percent for growth and 8 percent to 10 percent for poverty reduction by 2014.
She furthermore said that efforts to attain 6.8 percent growth target this year will face tough challenges with slowdown exports and poor level of government's budget expenditure.
She, however, said that exports have been recording improving figure at present after government intensified efforts in seeking new export markets. She said that exports to those new countries have contributed 60 percent of the country's overall exports, with the figure for standing at 45 percent.
