A senior Party official from Shanwei city in the eastern part of Guangdong province has been expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and suspected acceptance of large sums of bribes.

The province's top anti-graft body has recently transferred the case of Chen Zengxin, former member of the Party's leadership of Shanwei, to judicial authorities.

Born in October 1956, Chen, who was also secretary of Shanwei's Party Commission of politics and law, was suspected to have abused power for personal gains and taken large sums of bribes in separate cases, according to a statement issued by the provincial anti-graft body.

It did not reveal how much Chen is alleged to have accepted in bribes.

Chen became a member of the Communist Party of China when he was only 20 years old.

He was promoted to director of the population and family planning commission of Shanwei in 2000, and then director of Shanwei's land and natural resources bureau in 2004.

He was then promoted to important posts in the city's Party leadership.
