The Center for Strategic Studies under the Second Artillery Force (SAF) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was inaugurated at the Equipment Research Institute of the PLA SAF on the afternoon of December 21, 2012.
Experts and academicians from leading organs of the PLA general headquarters/departments, the Academy of Military Sciences (AMS) of the PLA, the National Defense University (NDU) of the PLA, the SAF of the PLA, the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC), the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP) and the Tsinghua University were present at the inaugural meeting. They jointly studied and planned how to build strong information-based strategic missile troop units by setting their sights on safeguarding the overall situation of China's national security strategy.
It is learnt that the center will serve as a major force of strategic research, a think tank of decision-making of command-and-staff organs and a core platform of academic exchanges on strategic research of the PLA SAF, and it will focus on the research of such issues as development strategies, combat forces, top design planning of weaponry and equipment construction, use and planning of military forces of the PLA SAF, so as to provide technical support and consultation services for the Central Military Commission (CMC), the general departments/headquarters of the PLA and the command-and-staff organs of the PLA SAF.
