PLA deputies to NPC: Accelerate modernization construction of national defense and armed forces

"We should accelerate the modernization of national defense and armed forces, build a consolidated national defense and powerful armed forces, resolutely safeguard state sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and ensure the peaceful development of the country." This 50-word short sentence in the report on the work of the government is rich in contents and weighty in significance in the eyes of the PLA deputies to the NPC.

"People of the entire country are eagerly looking forward to the building of a consolidated national defense and powerful armed forces, making me feel the missions are glorious and the responsibilities are great," said Guo Junbo, PLA deputy to the NPC and deputy political commissar of the National Defense University (NDU) of the PLA.

According to Sun Laishen, PLA deputy to the NPC and commander of the aviation force of the East China Sea Fleet under the Navy of the PLA, facing the ever-changing international situation, we must not grow slack. We must firmly hold on to the established standards of combat power, focus on being capable of fighting and winning battles, and constantly improve the capability to win local wars under the information-based conditions. We must resolutely safeguard state sovereignty, security and interests in development, and provide security guarantee for the period of important strategic opportunities for national development.

According to Wang Yu, PLA deputy to the NPC and director of the Naval Armaments Research Institute of the PLA, the annual growth of national investment in science and technology has gone over 18% in recent years, and the constant increase of national investments has pushed forward leap of the innovation capabilities of national defense science and technology.

As stated by Xu Jianzhong, PLA deputy to the NPC and former deputy political commissar of the PLA Navy, the report on the work of the government clearly proposes to strengthen the maritime comprehensive management and safeguard national maritime rights and interests, which has set higher demands on the modernization construction of the Chinese Navy. We must seize the opportunity, increase investments, and work hard to build a strong navy fitting to the international status of our country.
