PM 2.5 for Lanzhou

(Global Times)

09:01, November 26, 2012

Lanzhou, one of the country's most severely polluted cities, will start to publish hazardous airborne pollutants known as PM 2.5 in December, according to new air quality standards.

The capital of Gansu Province is among the first batch of 74 cities required by the Ministry of Environmental Protection to start publishing daily reports of PM 2.5 levels by the end of the year. Lanzhou's air pollution is worse during the winter heating season.

Measuring particles as small as 2.5 micrometers is stricter than the PM 10 standard previously adopted in the country.

The World Health Organization in 2011 said Lanzhou's air was the most polluted in China.
