Uruguayan president's visit to boost bilateral ties: spokesman

BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- China hopes bilateral relations with Uruguay will go to a new level, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a press briefing Friday ahead of Uruguayan President Jose Mujica's visit.

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, the Uruguayan president will visit China from May 25 to 28. This year marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Noting that the two sides will engage in extensive and in-depth exchanges of views on China-Uruguay relations and international and regional issues of common concern, Hong said both sides will also sign cooperation agreements.

"China and Uruguay have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges, deepening political trust, expanding economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges," the spokesman said.
