The "Pakistan Theme Day" was held at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing on April 30, 2014.

The event, attended by Chinese entrepreneurs, businessmen and investors, is aimed at attracting Chinese investment in Pakistan by highlighting the business and investment environment there.

Pakistan ambassador to China, Masood Khalid said that Pakistan, being the most economical route for Chinese exports, is naturally positioned to serve as an energy and trade corridor for China.

"Pakistan is an ideal location for industry and investment due to its geographic location. It provides the cheapest and most viable sea route to western China and Central Asian States. The cargo destined from and to Persian Gulf and Middle East can reach Chinese provinces within a few days from Pakistani ports of Gwadar and Karachi. Pakistan is therefore naturally positioned to serve as an energy and trade corridor for China. With western China emerging as the new hub of manufacturing industry, Pakistan is the most economical route for Chinese exports to Middle East, Africa and Europe. Pakistan is also an alternate safe route for Chinese exports currently passing through the Straits of Malacca."

The ambassador also emphasized the mega project of Pakistan – China Economic Corridor.

"Both countries have initiated the work on mega project of Pakistan – China Economic Corridor, under this project, up-gradation of Karakorum Highway, road and rail links, industrial parks, Special Economic Zones, energy pipelines, communication and IT networks are envisaged. Both countries have now moved from the conceptual stage to planning stage, whereby experts are engaged in thrashing out the feasibility of numerous projects of this corridor."

Zheng Shuai, executive director of the China Overseas Investment Federation, said that there were numerous investment opportunities in Pakistan.

"In Pakistan, lots of investment opportunities are waiting for us. I believe that as a good neighbor to China, Pakistan offers better investment policies and investment environment than any other countries. And all the Chinese friends who have been to Pakistan are deeply impressed by the good will from the Pakistani friends."

He said that it was necessary to enhance the interconnectivity through China Pakistan Economic Corridor and to develop key projects along the corridor between the two countries.

Hanergy, a Chinese company developing solar projects in Pakistan, has set up a branch in the country.

Zhang Kai, vice president of Hanergy Global Solar Asia Pacific said that the company welcomes local companies to be their strategic partners.

"Given the longstanding friendship between China and Pakistan, we’re very interested in the Pakistan market. The country has very good sunshine presence, but still faces power shortage. In summer, only 12 hours electricity is provided per day. We’re ready to talk with local companies to be our strategic partners and willing to invest in clean energy field. Local companies specialized in solar business are welcome to join us."

The Economic Minister at the Embassy, Muhammad Salim and Commercial Counselor Riaz Sheikh also presented business and investment environment in Pakistan, including investment opportunities, policies, statutory protections, special economic zones, etc.

The Seminar was co-sponsored by the Embassy of Pakistan and the China Overseas Investment Federation.
