Senior CPC leader vows closer ties with Germany's Social Democratic Party

BEIJING, Nov. 18 -- A Senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has vowed to facilitate closer exchanges between the CPC and Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD) during a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday.

Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with a delegation led by SPD vice chairman Thorsten Schafer-Gumbel, who were in Beijing to attend commemoration of the 30th anniversary of CPC-SPD inter-party relationship.

After extending congratulations to the 30th anniversary, Liu said the two parties have carried out candid dialogue and fruitful cooperation over the past 30 years.

The CPC hopes to make joint efforts with the SPD to share experience in country governance, increase cultural exchanges and engage in substantial cooperation in various fields to push forward China-Germany ties to a new stage, he said.

Liu also briefed the guests about the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, initiatives proposed by China.

Thorsten Schafer-Gumbel said the SPD hopes to cement exchanges and cooperation with the CPC to boost Germany-China relations.
