Besides teaching Chinese, the institute has organized over 200 cultural events, public lectures, exhibitions, concerts and etc.

Referring to “highlights” of these activities, Professor Trappl mentioned the “The United Nations’ Peace Day” held this September.

The institute invited children from five continents to paint the topic of “My Family and International Family”. The selected paintings were shown in the UN headquarters in Vienna.

The institute also invited Chinese ambassador to Austria and American ambassador to Austria to give speech to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Shanghai Communiqué and the historic visit of President Nickson to China in 1972.

Professor Trappl said that the universities, the community, the public and media have got more and more awareness of what the Confucius Institute is doing.

As conclusion, Professor Trapple said the outside world is very interested in how China is developing. The world needs the bridges like the Confucius Institute to better understand China.

“Bring people to China and bring China to us. By this way, we will not only understand each other, but learn to appreciate each other.”
