Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Wednesday said that he will not quit midway during his next tenure if re-elected.

In an interview with All Indian Radio, Vajpayee said that he has been elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BOP), the ruling party, democratically and it is the party which decides the leadership issue.

The prime minister noted that the post election scene was full of possibilities, including those of realignment of political forces.

The nation wants a stable government and there are no two opinions on this, he said, adding that if one party got the number to form a stable government, it would be good for the country.

But he ruled out the possibility that one party could got the number to form a stable government by saying that there are no signs of that now, adding that India is again going towards a coalition government.

Talking about two-party system, Vajpayee said that in a diverse and large country like India, this kind of system was not workable and that regional parties were to stay.

On relations with Pakistan, the prime minister said that the understanding between the leadership of the two countries holds good and people on both sides want peace and development.
