KAMPALA, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- M23 rebels have agreed to heed to a directive from regional heads of state to pull out of Goma, the provincial capital of North Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ugandan military chief said here on Tuesday.

Gen. Aronda Nyakairima told reporters at the Ugandan military headquarters in the capital Kampala that the M23 rebel leader in a meeting with him on Monday night agreed to pull out his fighters starting on Nov. 27. The pull out would last 48 hours.

The meeting was also attended by military chiefs from Rwanda and DRC.

Gen. Nyakairima was given the responsibility by regional heads of state to oversee the withdrawal of M23 from Goma, a town they captured about a week ago.

African Great Lakes Region leaders over the weekend in an emergency summit held here released a detailed pull out plan for the M23. They said the rebels must move 20 km north of Goma and must stop all talk of overthrowing a legitimate government.

They also asked the DRC government to address the concerns of the M23.
